Fort Myers, FL - May 17, 2000 - Catholic Charities in Collaboration with United Haitian American Association Present Haitian Flag Day 2000 - A day of celebration in commemoration of our Haitian flag.

In an effort to be true to our mission in Southwest Florida, United Haitian American Association continues to strive to enrich the lives of all residents by promoting an awareness of the Haitian culture through music, dance, theater, arts, food, education and sense of community.

Every year on May 18, we celebrate Haitian Flag Day. Last year we had gathered the community together at Edison Park on Edison Ave.

This year’s celebration is our 6th annual. With the help of Catholic Charities, we will have our biggest festival ever. We expect about 500 to 800 people to join us in remembering the sacrifices our forefathers had made in order to give us our "bleu et rouge" (blue and red) flag. A lot of activities are planned throughout the day: Different speakers will take the podium to relive the story of the creation of the flag.

Music, Games, Food etc. will be provided. Free Medical Exams will be offered by Lee County Health Department. All are welcome.
